Routine Safety Drill at Homer High School
Safety Drill at Homer High School
Routinely, Homer Central School District personnel conduct safety drills in cooperation with the Homer Police Department to promote a safe school environment. Building administrators, assisted by officers from the Village of Homer Police Department, are conducting a lockdown drill this afternoon (11/28). Procedures for a lockdown were announced and simulated during the drill. These procedures are used when there is a threat within the building and having students and staff leave the building or classrooms might further endanger the students and staff. When we utilize a lockdown students, staff, and visitors move to protected positions and stay quiet and out of sight from the hallway door. Instruction was interrupted briefly to conduct this drill, with students and staff staying in the classroom they were in. At the end of the lockdown portion of the drill, students, staff and visitors remained in offices and classrooms while instruction resumed until released by an announcement that the drill was complete.
We appreciate the cooperation of students, staff and visitors at our school during this drill. Additionally, we are fortunate to have the assistance of local law enforcement in promoting a safe school environment. Please contact your building principal with any questions.
