Pajama Program Helping Kids Over the Holidays
‘Tis the season for giving, and the benevolent members of the Homer Central School District community take this message to heart.
You may know Connie Martin as the Reading Teacher at the Homer Intermediate School. But did you know that she’s also the local chapter president for the Pajama Program? The Pajama Program - a not-for-profit organization that believes that “every child has the right to a good night” - sees local contributors donate new books and pajamas to children in need.
In particular, the pajamas are donated to local organizations such as the Cortland County Community Action Program, Loaves & Fishes, and the Friends of Cortland County Child Advocacy Center. Under Connie’s stewardship, the local effort has been active for several years running.
“While I do collect pajamas year-round, the bulk of my donations typically come at this time of year,” according to Connie. The Homer community - including staff, students, and parents - donated 80 pairs of pajamas and 35 books this year!
“I appreciate their generosity, and look forward to topping these numbers next year!” said Connie.
