Superintendent of Schools
Dear Homer CSD Families and Friends,
The 2017-18 school year is right around the corner and I always look forward to the excitement brought on by the return of staff and students.
As with each passing year, we work to continuously improve the curriculum and programmatic offerings to Homer students. Even with students gone for the summer, many of our teachers have been involved in summer school, curriculum writing, and/or in professional development and training.
We are excited to be launching Homer’s first Pre-Kindergarten class and Mrs. Powers has worked diligently to create a very welcoming environment for our four-year-olds.
Another exciting celebration of Blue Pride is the creation of our "Graduates of Distinction Program". This program was created to recognize alumni who have achieved distinction through outstanding accomplishments or lifetime achievements. The program serves to honor Homer Central School District Alumni contributions to the world. Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for this honor:
- A Homer Central School graduate of at least 15 years
- Educational achievements
- Post-graduation achievement which may include job-related achievements; professional honors and awards; professional affiliations and/or publications
- Civic or community involvement
- Other appropriate qualifications that merit consideration
Nominations are due by January 30, 2018. Nomination forms may be found on the district website at www.homercentral.org. An anonymous stakeholder group established by the Board of Education will select four or five nominees to be honored publicly at our June 2018 graduation ceremony. We want our graduating seniors to see the wonderful accomplishments of our alumni and know that they, too, can accomplish great things.
We have great students at Homer and with great PRIDE we stand ready to make your child's school year as rewarding as possible. My best to all for this coming school year!
