Mr. McGory Bio

I began my career in education in 1990, serving as a teacher aide and assistant for Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES. In 1997 Mrs. McGory and I uprooted from Canandaigua, N.Y. and moved to Punxsutawney, P.A. while I attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I majored in elementary education with a concentration in literacy. I received my bachelor degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2001 graduating with honors. While attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania I student taught in grades 1, 3, and 5. I also volunteered within the community and hosted events for Armed Forces Veteran's through the local Elks organization. Upon graduation I was hired to manage a family daycare in Indiana, P.A.

During the fall of 2001 I interviewed with multiple school districts in Pennsylvania and New York eventually landing in the Canandaigua City School District as an elementary school fifth grade teacher.  Within 2 years I moved to the Canandaigua Middle School where I taught 6th grade language arts, math, science, and social studies for 10 years. I also served as team leader of grade 6 for 7 years. During my time in Canandaigua I coached girls varsity softball and junior varsity football. I also led efforts within the community to restore a historical cemetery.

I began attending courses for administration in 2011 at the University of Rochester, where I earned my certificate in advanced studies in school administration in the fall of 2012. During the winter of 2012 I was asked to serve the Canandaigua Middle School as an assistant principal. During this time I worked with grades 6-8 students and teachers. Upon hearing of the elementary principal opening here in Homer, I immediately applied and worked through two rigurous interviews, eventually earning the position here in Homer.

My wife Christine and I have been married for 21 years. We have two wonderful children. My son Jacob is a 11th grader at the Homer High School and my daughter Julie is an 9th grader at the Homer Senior High School. We continue to be so very proud of the both of them as they demonstrate great character and work ethic as life long learners. We also have a 4 year old Standard Poodle named Cece and a 1 year old Standard Poodle named Geneva. Both can be such a handful at times! We reside in the village of Homer and feel proud to call ourselves members of such a wonderful community! Blue PRIDE!
