Mr. McGory Bio

I began my career in education in 1990, serving as a teacher aide and assistant for Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES. In 1997 Mrs. McGory and I uprooted from Canandaigua, N.Y. and moved to Punxsutawney, P.A. while I attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I majored in elementary education. I received my bachelor degree in elementary education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2001 graduating with honors. While attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania I student taught in grades 1, 3, and 5. Upon graduation I was hired to run a family daycare in Indiana, P.A.

During the fall of 2001 I interviewed with the Canandaigua City School District for an elementary teaching position. I earned the position and began my teaching career in the fall of 2001 as a 5th grade teacher. Within 2 years I moved to the Canandaigua Middle School where I taught 6th grade for 10 years. I earned my masters degree from the University of New England in 2005. During my time in Canandaigua I coached girls varsity softball and junior varsity football. I also led efforts within the community to restore a historical cemetery.

I began attending courses for administration in 2011 at the University of Rochester, earning my certificate in school administration in the fall of 2012. During the winter of 2012 I was asked to serve the Canandaigua Middle School as an assistant principal. During this time I worked with grades 6-8 students and teachers. Upon hearing about the principal opening in Homer I applied and worked through 2 intensive interviews, earning the position and being hired in July of 2013.

My wife Christine and I have been married for 19 years. We have two wonderful children. My son Jacob is an 8th grader and my daughter Julie is a 6th grader at the Homer Junior High School. We also have a year and half old standard poodle named Cece. She can be such a handful! We reside in the village of Homer and feel proud to call ourselves members of such a wonderful community! Blue PRIDE!
