Fourth Grade Learns About Native Americans

Students in the fourth grade had a unique opportunity to listen and learn about the Native American Haudenosaunee Confederacy recently. Several members of the tribe visited our school as part of the students’ studies about Haudenosaunee culture and traditions. Students heard from three speakers: Mrs. Kimberly Lyman-Wright, a Homer graduate, school principal, and a member of the Seneca tribe; her mother, who is a clan mother; and her uncle, who is a Chief of the Cayuga Nation. Students listened to the history of the Haudenosaunee, learned about their traditions, and specifically about Native American clans and the importance of the clan with respect to their culture. A big thank you goes to our guest speakers for visiting us and enriching our understanding and curriculum.
