Teen Driver Safety Week

The last week of October was Teen Driver Safety Week for Homer High students. The “5 to Drive” campaign is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s focus on bringing awareness to risky behaviors. Students could compete in a team seatbelt race, walk a line wearing “impairment” goggles, and experience a crash in a simulator, among other things. Small prizes were awarded for participation, and students had fun learning valuable lessons. Health teacher Mrs. Whitney coordinated the activities in conjunction with the Cortland County Health Department. Also, School Resource Officer Lake and New York State Trooper Huff were on site to offer advice and their experiences with teen driver distracted driving. Thanks to all staff who helped make this a memorable event, and to all students who participated. Click on the link for more information and a list of the five most risky behaviors for teen drivers.
