Author Kenneth Oppel visits Homer Schools
Kenneth Oppel, multi-award winning Canadian author, spoke with Junior High students on Wednesday, March 30, and with Intermediate students on Thursday, March 31. Thanks to Phillips Free Library and a generous grant from the J. M. McDonald Foundation, all six grade levels had individual presentations with the author. Mr. Oppel spoke about his book, The Boundless, a big adventure on the longest train ever. Other students learned of the adventures of Matt Cruise and Kate DeVries onboard a zeppelin-like airship in Airborn. Mr. Oppel also discussed his career, his writing process and shared summaries and teasers for many of his other books. In each presentation, Mr. Oppel underscored the importance of background research for each book’s subject matter. Students asked him questions and received helpful, and entertaining, answers. Many of Kenneth Oppel’s books are available and ready to borrow at school libraries. Ask your child what their favorite Kenneth Oppel book is. Maybe you could read one together!
