Cortland County Envirothon

Five Homer High students won first place in the Cortland County Envirothon on May 13. Eight teams from various Cortland County school districts competed in this annual event, which is sponsored by the Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension. Teams compete in different science-skill areas such as determining soil composition and pH level, wildlife and tree identification, and water analysis among other tasks. High School biology teacher Mr. Andrejko proudly reports that Homer’s team, “The Kids,” placed first in all six categories including the oral presentation. The team has earned a spot to compete in the New York State Envirothon to be held at Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva on May 25 and 26. There will be 40 teams competing at the state level. Congratulations to Julia F., Kennedy G., Tighe G., Joe S., and Evan U.  We wish you best of luck!
