Dear Homer High School Neighbor,
Upon the start of the tennis court replacement project it was discovered that beneath the tennis courts, there is an
existing tennis court with a green coating on its surface. This green coating material was questioned by the site work
contractor and sampling of the material was performed on June 16, 2016. This green coating is contained between
two layers of asphalt with the exception of the fence post removal locations where the material was encountered.
Orange construction fencing was placed surrounding the tennis court site to contain the area. On June 22, 2016, the
sampling results were returned and the green coating material was found to be asbestos containing.
A variance petition was submitted to the New York State Department of Labor. The variance was granted on July 7,
2016 and established the conditions for this material to be removed safely.
The anticipated dates of removal are from August 22, 2016, to August 30, 2016.
Homer Central School District invites you to attend a public meeting on August 16, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the Homer
High School Library. We want our neighbors near the site to be fully informed about both the work schedule and
process which will be performed by experts following strict environmental and governmental precautions. AEG
Environmental Group is the Asbestos Project Monitor for the Capital Improvements Project and has agreed to attend
this meeting in an effort to field questions that may arise.
